Pair gets 90 days for beating of Arlington Heights man
Two Chicago men were sentenced Tuesday to 90 days in jail after they admitted beating an Arlington Heights man they met in Round Lake Beach.
Christopher Gardner, 20, and Michael Williams, 22, were also sentenced to two years probation in Lake County Circuit Court.
Assistant State's Attorney Marykay Foy said Gardner and Williams met the 22-year-old victim in a Round Lake Beach bar on Sept. 6 and offered to drive him to a location where he could buy marijuana.
As Gardner drove on Fairfield Road, Williams punched the victim repeatedly and demanded his money, Foy said.
The victim eventually fled the car, leaving behind his cell phone and wallet.
Round Lake Beach police arrested Gardner and Williams the same day based upon a description the victim gave them.
Both were originally charged with robbery and aggravated battery, but Foy agreed to drop the robbery charge in exchange for guilty pleas to aggravated battery.
Circuit Judge George Bridges also ordered the pair to pay $1,259 in restitution to the victim.
