ECC concert band to pay tribute to Hollywood
The Elgin Community College Concert Band presents "Tunes from Tinseltown," a celebration of classics from Hollywood favorites, at 7:30 p.m. today in Blizzard Theatre in the ECC Visual and Performing Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.
Director James Kull has prepared a repertoire filled with music from "Grease" to "Star Wars."
The evening's fanfares include selections from "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," arranged by Michael Brown, and a "Disney March Spectacular," arranged by Ted Ricketts.
In addition to Kull's work at the college, he is director of bands at St. Charles East High School. Kull oversees a band program encompassing seven concert bands and four jazz bands; is director of the award-winning jazz workshop and wind ensemble; and also directs two symphonic bands.
He also directs the 300-member Marching Saints, one of the largest marching bands in Illinois.
In 2003, Kull received the Chicagoland Outstanding Music Educators Award and the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation Award.
