Palatine Inn given more time to get up to code

The Palatine Inn has another two months to ensure village officials it is operating in accordance with the local health code.

A ruling was postponed Friday on the multiple health code violations reported by the Palatine Health Department in August.

The eatery now has until Dec. 14 to keep implementing village-ordered procedures. On Dec. 14, Palatine could suspend or revoke Palatine Inn's business license; a fine also could be imposed.

Meanwhile, the popular restaurant at 95 W. Northwest Hwy. has been allowed to remain open. The parking lot was packed late Friday morning with the breakfast crowd.

"Palatine Inn has taken substantial steps in terms of improving their operations," Patrick Brankin, an attorney for the village, said Friday. "This time will allow for additional training and monitoring."

Most of the violations relate to inadequate food storage and unhygienic worker practices. The violations were documented during five health department inspections from April to July.

Brankin said Palatine Inn has worked diligently with the village to correct the problems. Its owners regularly submit written documentation, which is reviewed and followed up in the field by inspectors.
