Leo Club spaghetti dinner to help S. Elgin flood victims

The South Elgin Leo Club will host a spaghetti dinner to benefit South Elgin residents hit by the August floods.

The dinner will be served from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 26 at the South Elgin Lions Club, 500 Fulton St. Admission is $7 for adults or $3.50 for children. The meal does not include a beverage. Cash bar will be available.

When the rain was finished and the flooding receded, Dave and Mary Bulkley could finally see the extent of the damage and discovered that the only thing to survive the flood was their furnace and a few miscellaneous belongings that were not close to the floor. Even though their furnace was raised and did not take any water, it currently will not fire and will need some repairs.

The Bulkleys are unable to live in their home, and their insurance will cover only a small portion of their loss.

The Bulkleys have lived in South Elgin for the last 29 years and are active in the community.

Dave is a member of the South Elgin Veterans of Foreign Wars, the South Elgin Lions Club, Mascoutin Society of Chicagoland and Nemki Dancing Society. Mary is also a member of Nemki Dancing Society.

The Leo Club will donate all net proceeds of the spaghetti dinner fundraiser to the Bulkleys to help with the restoration of their home and/or replacement of items damaged by the flooding in late August.

If you are unable to attend and would like to make a donation, all checks should be made payable to the South Elgin Leo Club and mailed to 500 Fulton Ave., PO Box 221, South Elgin, IL 60177.
