Best and the brightest
• Michael C. Thompson, son of Barbara and Randy Thompson of Buffalo Grove, was named to the spring 2007 dean's list for academic achievement in the College of Arts, Sciences and Engineering at the University of Rochester, New York. Thompson is a freshman majoring in political science, is a graduate of Adlai E. Stevenson High School, Lincolnshire.
• Kate Willing, daughter of William and Debra Willing of Wheeling, was named to the North Central College dean's list for 2007 spring term. To be eligible, undergraduate students must maintain a grade-point average of 3.6 (4.0 is an A) for the term.
• Washington University in St. Louis named Elyse Cohen and Robert Harvey of Long Grove, students in the university's College of Arts & Sciences, to the dean's list for the spring 2007 semester. To qualify for the dean's list in the college, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or above and be enrolled in at least 14 graded units.
• Kathryn Smogor of Buffalo Grove was named to the second semester dean's list at Loyola University of Chicago.
This was her third consecutive semester being named to the dean's list.
Smogor is a 2004 graduate from Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein.
• Teresa M. Pfleger of Long Grove was named to the spring 2007 Outstanding Student Honor Roll at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.
• Jasbir Pravin Patel of Wheeling was awarded master's degree from the College of Business at Northern Illinois University's May 12 commencement ceremonies in DeKalb.
• D. Hunter Logan of Buffalo Grove was awarded a master's degree from the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Northern Illinois University's May 12 commencement ceremonies in DeKalb.
• Justin Bradford Dooley of Long Grove was awarded a master's degree from the College of Business at Northern Illinois University's May 12 commencement ceremonies in DeKalb.
• Douglas Adolph of Wheeling, a graduate of Wheeling High School, was awarded a bachelor of arts degree in communication this year from Lake Forest College.
• Edward Slonim of Buffalo Grove, a senior math major at Monmouth College, was named to the college's big band orchestra for the 2007-08 academic year. Slonim, son of Scott and Nancy Slonim of Buffalo Grove, will perform with the group composed of 25 student-musicians at various functions throughout the year.
• Sara Morgenthal of Wheeling, a junior majoring in nursing at Millikin University, Decatur, was honored during the Legacy of the Lamp ceremony hosted by the Millikin School of Nursing on Oct. 5. The ceremony honors junior nursing students as they enter the clinical education phase of their program. Each student received a replica of the Florence Nightingale lamp with the Millikin School of Nursing logo on it.
• Stephanie Meyer, daughter of Marc and Debbie Meyer of Buffalo Grove, was recently recognized as a member of Sigma Alpha Lambda, National Leadership and Honors Organization at the University of Kansas, Lawrence. Sigma Alpha Lambda is dedicated to promoting and rewarding academic achievement and providing members with opportunities for community service, personal development, and lifelong professional fulfillment. Meyer is a 2005 graduate of Buffalo Grove High school.
