Coulter's dream really a nightmare
Ann Coulter, the conservative author and commentator, was asked in a recent interview what the U.S. would look like in her dreams. She responded by saying the U.S. would look like the Republican National Convention in 2004.
That response surprised me, because the U.S. lived that dream from 2001 to 2006, when the Republicans held a majority in both houses of Congress and had President Bush in the White House.
During that time we experienced the Republican dream -- tax cuts for the rich, preemptive war, sanctioned torture, inept FEMA, unrestricted wire taps, massive federal debt, an under funded Social Security system, and no health care for children.
I suppose if you don't have to live with the consequences you might consider that a dream. However, since we will live with the consequences for many years to come, I'd call it the Republican nightmare.
