Judson women rewarded with top Region VII seed

Continuing its push forward in the postseason, Judson University was awarded the No. 1 seed for the upcoming NAIA Region VII women's soccer tournament. The tournament will be held in Des Moines, Iowa, at the James Cownie Soccer Complex.

This is the first-time that Judson will be playing in the NAIA Region VII Tournament and the as the No. 1 seed. They Eagles received the top seed by winning the CCAC Tournament championship and having a stronger 'Longo' score than St. Ambrose, which was the MCC Tournament champion. The 'Longo' is a system that rates your schedule and determines how difficult your schedule is.

The CCAC placed four of the six teams in the NAIA Region VII Tournament. St. Xavier is the No. 3 seed followed by Trinity Christian at No. 5 and Trinity International at No. 6. Two MCC teams made the tournament with St. Ambrose at No. and Grand View at No. 4.

Judson will face the winner of the Grand View/Trinity Christian match on Friday at 3:30 p.m. Grand View and Trinity Christian are playing today at 7 p.m. in Des Moines.

JU has faced St. Xavier, TIU, and TCC this season. If TCC defeats Grand View, JU will see TCC for the second time this season. On Oct. 3, JU defeated then No. 12 Trinity Christian, 3-2, in overtime as Dundee-Crown graduate Christina Thornton hit the game-winning goal in the 91st minute. If JU can advance to the regional championship, it may see another CCAC foe in either SXU or TIU.

The Eagles also have the possibility of facing Grand View. JU holds a 2-0 lead in the series vs. Grand View with the last meeting in 2005. JU won 3-0 in Elgin. JU is also 2-1 vs. St. Ambrose and fell to the Bees earlier this season, 2-1.

JU is currently 11-5-2 with a nine-game unbeaten streak.

Judson men host CCAC title game: Judson University (12-4-3) will be hosting its fourth straight men's soccer CCAC Tournament championship match at 2:30 p.m. today. The Eagles will be facing No. 3 seed St. Xavier with the winner advancing to the NAIA Region VII Tournament.

This will be the fourth year in a row that JU has hosted the CCAC Tournament championship. JU has won the last three championships. Last week, the Eagles won their fourth straight CCAC regular season championship with a 2-2 tie against Illinois Tech.

SXU and JU have met 23 times since 1993 and JU holds an 18-2-3 advantage. JU defeated SXU earlier this season, 1-0, in overtime in Elgin.
