Kirk should lead effort to override
Children are defenseless and vulnerable. They cannot speak out on their own behalf for their health care needs. Therefore, I am asking as an advocate for them, that Mark Kirk not only vote to override the president's veto, but also convince his colleagues to do so.
According to recent polls, 85 percent of Americans support re-authorizing SCHIP, with seven in 10 saying they are behind the Democratic plan to expand SCHIP by $35 billion over five years.
If we can spend half a trillion dollars on an ill-conceived war in Iraq, we can afford this much smaller sum here at home for our children who are the next generation and represent the future of our country.
