Man charged in Round Lake Park stabbing

A 40-year-old Hainesville man is charged with attempted murder after police say he stabbed another man in Round Lake Park on Sunday.

Carlos Vasquez-Estefan, of 396 W. Main St., was arrested at his home after the incident and charged with attempted murder. Police said Vasquez-Estefan went by other aliases including Carlos E. Vaszquez and Carlos Vazquez.

Round Lake Park/Hainesville Police Chief George Filenko said officers were called to investigate a disturbance at about 8 p.m. Sunday at 321 E. Willow in Round Lake Park where they found Martin Loza, 41, with stab wounds in the chest and neck.

Loza was transported to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville and later airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

Loza was reported in critical condition Monday.

After talking to witnesses, Filenko said officers went to Vasquez-Estefan's house, where the man was arrested and charged.

The Loza and Vasquez-Estefan knew each other from work, Filenko said.

"We're not sure what the argument was about," he added.

Vasquez-Estefan was in custody today awaiting a bond hearing.
