Halloween Gingerbread House Party: El Chef Michael Niksic will show you how to put together a Halloween gingerbread house with miniature custom lighting and novel ideas from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Friday at the Olympic Indoor Swim Center, 660 N. Ridge Ave. Prizes, tricks and treats, glow sticks, goodies, and beverages will be served. Children are encouraged to dress for the occasion. Recipes and templates will be passed out along with handling instructions. You can register as an individual or a family. Open to ages 7 and older. Cost: Individual, $12; family, $30. (847) 577-3025.
Jewelry/Accessory Show: A trip to the Jewelry/Accessory Show will be Oct. 19.
The show offers 400 vendor booths selling all the latest fashions and accessories, plus costume and fine jewelry. Buy direct from the vendor companies.
Cash/checks/credit cards are accepted. Lunch will be at Lou Malnati's Pizzeria including pizza and pasta.
Motorcoach departs at 10:45 a.m. and returns at approximately 5 p.m.

Haunted Mystery Tour: The Haunted Mystery Tour will be Oct. 19. Join us for a Halloween Trip to "Haunted Trails Amusement Park." Trip will include transportation on a chartered bus, admission to Frightmare 2007 Haunted House, a round of miniature golf, go-cart rides, 20 game tokens for the arcade, and a food package of pizza and pop. Bus leaves from Olympic Indoor Swim Center, 660 N. Ridge Ave., at 5 p.m. and returns at approximately 10 p.m. Park district supervisors provide supervision; parents are welcome to attend. Preschool Halloween Spooktacular: Children, accompanied by an adult, will play games, complete a ghostly craft, and enjoy a fun filled trick or treat lane out in the park from 1 t o 2:15 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Olympic Indoor Swim Center, 660 N. Ridge Ave. A costume parade will end the day so bring your cameras. Please dress for outdoor activities. Age: 3-6. Resident fee: $10. (847) 577-3025.
Halloween Safety: Make this Halloween better than ever by making sure you have fun, while being safe at the same time. Come join us at Recreation Park as Officer Hajek goes over Halloween safety tips from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 24, at Recreation Park, 500 E. Miner St., (847) 577-3040. Class Code: 3007-8, All ages. Trunk-or-Treat: Trick or treat from car to car from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 26 in the parking lot at Melas Park.

Healthy Cooking Mythbuster: This program is from 2 to 3:15 p.m. Nov. 19 at Olympic Indoor Swim Center, 660 N. Ridge Ave., and features a cutting edge new technology in cookware that promotes healthy cooking without the use of water or oils. You will learn how to eat according to your tastes. Beverages and goodies will be supplied and you will go home with handouts to help guide you toward healthy cooking. Class Code: 3012-9, Age: 16 and over. Fee $10. (847) 577-3025.
Junior Historian Club: The Historical Museum's Junior Historian Club returns for its second year. Designed for boys and girls from third through eighth grade, the Club offers activities created to help members learn more about their community and its heritage.

Open Wood Shop at the Senior Center: The Wood shop features six complete work stations and state-of-the art equipment.
