Mundelein High staff honored

Three Mundelein High School staff members were honored at morning gathering recently as the first recipients of the new Staff Mustang Pride awards. The awards are the adult version of the Mustang Pride awards that have been given to students on a monthly basis for the past few years.

Presented by Assistant Principal Eric Gallagher, the awards were given to Stacey Gorman, social science department chair; Tom Buenik, lead counselor in the guidance department; and Rick Karabiac, director of maintenance.

Gorman was recognized for her work as chair of the School Culture Subcommittee, which has already implemented several of the group's goals, like the murals in the school's entryway and the staff pride awards.

Buenik reorganized and coordinated the Open House evening events on Aug. 30 at the high school. He was able to make the evening more "user-friendly" for the hundreds of parents who attended the event.

Karabiac was singled out for his quick responses and professional manner of handling the day-to-day operations of the building.

According to Gallagher, "Rick (Karabiac) is just a phone call away and he always handles any request, large or small, quickly and efficiently."

The Staff Mustang Pride Awards will be presented on a monthly basis. Students, staff and members of the community may nominate any Mundelein High Schol staff member for his or her work in several areas including Service to Others, Leadership, Unsolicited Good Deeds, Contributions to the School and Going Above and Beyond in Working With a Student. Nominations can be submitted to Gallagher by using the online form available at www.mundeleinmustangs.com or by printing it and sending it or bringing it to Gallagher's office.
