Cubs promote Fleita

After a season with significant contributions from the farm system, the Cubs have promoted their player development director.

Oneri Fleita, who had been director of player development and Latin American operations, was named vice president of player personnel by the club.

Fleita joined the Cubs in 1995 as a minor league manager, became an area scout in 1996 and in 1997 was named coordinator of Latin American operations. He was promoted to director of player development in August 2000.

Other front office changes for the Cubs:

Jay Blunk, director of sales and marketing, was named vice president of marketing and broadcasting.

Mark O'Neal, head athletic trainer, was promoted to director, athletic training.

Carl Rice, director of information systems and special projects, was named senior director of information systems and special projects.
