Village hall work starts

Wheeling officials will break ground on the town's new village hall at 6 p.m. today. The event, at 301 W. Dundee Road, will include refreshments. The village agreed to a land swapping deal with the park district for the new, $23.5 million hall. The building should be finished by spring 2009. The old building, at 255 W. Higgins speed limit down

The Hoffman Estates Park District is advising drivers that the speed limit on Higgins Road near Huntington Drive has been reduced to 45 mph, now that the Illinois Department of Transportation approved the change. New speed limit signs have been posted and police have started ticketing. One of the park district community centers is nearby.

Support the Barrington arts

Barrington High School's fine arts department and the Fine Arts Boosters will team up again for the annual Citrus Sale. Proceeds from the sale of citrus, cheese and sausage go to the fine arts department. To place an order, contact any Barrington High School fine arts student or call Janet Mahaney at (847) 382-8652. The power of ghost stories

The Schuette-Bierman Farmhouse Museum will offer a free program from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight called Grimm's Grimmest Fairy Tales, at the Al Hattendorf Center, 225 E. Elk Grove Blvd. in Elk Grove Village. Storyteller Judith Jeineman talks about the real endings of popular fairy tales -- before they were rewritten in the Victorian era -- as in, what really happens after Sleeping Beauty is awakened by the Prince's kiss? Get your photo with Colonel

An actor portraying Col. Sanders will visit the KFC/Taco Bell in Wheeling today to promote the World Food Programme. The colonel will be at the restaurant, at 150 E. Dundee Road, from noon to 2 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. Those who donate $1 for World Hunger Relief Week will get a chance to take their picture with him.
