Geneva High teen faces felony charges after fight

A 15-year-old Geneva High School student has been charged with felony aggravated assault after a fight Friday in which he broke a classmate's nose and gave him a concussion, authorities said.

Geneva Police Commander Joe Frega said the incident began at about 11:30 a.m. in a hallway during a passing period when the teen began taunting the victim.

"The offender threw a coin at the guy and it hit his girlfriend," Frega said.

The boyfriend, 18, walked over to the 15-year-old and pushed him, Frega said.

The 15-year-old responded by punching him four to five times, breaking his nose and knocking him to the ground.

The teen was taken to the Kane County Juvenile Center Friday.

His current status is unknown. Juvenile court records are sealed and authorities don't comment on them.

Frega said the girl was not injured. The 18-year-old was treated by the school nurse.

A message left with Geneva High School Principal Tom Rogers was not immediately returned.
