Two face theft charges after Wal-Mart arrest
Two Chicago residents were arrested at 9:30 p.m. Thursday after an East Dundee officer found their car parked next the fire exit door at Wal-Mart, police said.
Tara Davis, 21, of 3930 W. Congress and Earl C. Tate, 47, of 1055 W. 70th St., were each charged with felony retail theft, police said.
Tate also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after a cocaine pipe was found, police said.
The police officer said he found the car with its engine running parked next to the fire door of Wal-Mart, 620 S. Dundee Ave., East Dundee.
Its trunk was open and while officers were questioning Tate, the driver, Davis stepped out the door and set off the fire alarm, police said.
Police said they found a stack of merchandise worth $1,833.14 piled next to the door.
In court on Friday, the Kane County state's attorney's office said Davis had 19 previous court convictions for charges including larceny and theft. She also was wanted on a warrant with a $5,000 bond from Will County.
Tate had 17 previous convictions for dangerous drugs, larceny and assault.
Kane County Judge Allen Cargerman set each of their bonds at $50,000.
Both were taken to the Kane County jail to await court dates on Nov. 9 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
