Baseball

Heat tryouts: Heat Baseball, based in Hoffman Estates, has scheduled tryouts for 1 p.m. Sunday at High Point Park, 1730 Glenlake Road, Hoffman Estates. The team is seeking college-bound juniors and seniors from the Northwest and surrounding suburbs. Players should arrive 30 minutes early for sign-in. Basketball

Corsairs tryouts: The Junior Corsairs Basketball Program offers an opportunity for sixth- to eighth-grade boys to compete against various teams from Lake and Cook counties. Tryout dates and times for all levels are 7:15 to 9:15 p.m. Nov. 8; noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 11; and 7:15 to 9:15 p.m. Nov. 15. Practices and home games will be held at Carmel High School.

Winter league tryouts: The Net Burners Impact Winter League Basketball tryouts will be held Thursday at Birchwood Park District, 435 W. Illinois St., Palatine, at the following times.

• Fourth- to sixth-grade boys -- 6 to 7:30 p.m.

• Seventh- to eighth-grade boys -- 7:30 to 9 p.m.

• Seventh- to eighth-grade girls -- 6 to 7:30 p.m.

• Fourth- to sixth-grade girls -- 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Football

Flames defeat: The BIG 10-Middleweight Division Lake Zurich Flames, playing in the TCYFL (Tri-County Youth Football League) were defeated 28-0 by Buffalo Grove on Sept. 30.

In the first play of the game, Lake Zurich's defender Mike Hagan stripped the ball from Buffalo Grove's ball carrier and Brandon Arteaga recovered to set up the offense early in the game. Despite passing attempts by quarterback Steven Demmert, the Bills held Lake Zurich at the line of scrimmage and scored on the punt return.

Offensive linemen A.J. Trittschuh, Noah Allgood, Noah Ezsak, Luke Yankoe, Mitch Zovnic and James DeGeorge, and ball carriers Hagan, Demmert, Arteaga, Jack Boliaux, Colton Wagner and Camden Kuksa put forth a unified effort but came up short of scoring. Quarterback Charlie Spatoulas was good for 32 yards of passing.

Lake Zurich's defensive tackle DeGeorge intercepted a pass for a second turnover near the end of the first quarter. Hagan and DeGeorge broke through the Bills' line for a quarterback sack. Defensive power tackles were delivered by Brett Blum, Anthony Tinaglia, Tony Anagnostopoulos, Spatoulas, Kuksa, Demmert, Boliaux, Arteaga and Wagner.

Team members are Noah Allgood, Tony Anagnostopoulos, Brandon Arteaga, Brett Blum, Jack Boliaux, James DeGeorge, Steven Demmert, Noah Ezsak, Michael Hagan, Gil Juarez, Camden Kuksa, Vinny Loverde, Charlie Spatoulas, Anthony Tinaglia, A.J. Trittschuh, Colton Wagner, Luke Yankoe and Mitchell Zovnic.

The team is led by Head Coach Guy Boliaux, Offensive Coordinator Dan Kuksa and assistants, Marc Allgood, John Wagner and Ron Ezsak.

Hockey

Patriots victory: The Stevenson Patriots JV Hockey team traveled to the south side of Chicago Sept. 20 to take on the Providence Catholic Celtics in the season's first HIT Conference game. Stevenson came away with a 7-1 win.

The Patriots scored with goals from Gordon Ochi, Michael St. Martin, Kollin Fairbanks and Myles Lobus to open up a 4-0 lead at the end of the first period. Stevenson cruised the rest of the way with Fairbanks scoring two more goals for a hat trick. Ricky Razdolsky scored on a one-on-one move after receiving a 90-foot pass through center ice.

Goaltending by Mitchell Levinson and the defense were excellent. The three outstanding players of the game were Fairbanks, Razdolsky and Christian Wilhelm for his defensive play.

Soccer

High school tryouts: Real Chicago FC will hold its 2007-08 High School U15 to U18 tryouts from 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday at Maine West High School, 1755 S. Wolf Road, Des Plaines. The fields are located behind the football stadium. Players should arrive one-half hour early to register and bring birth certificate, wallet-size photo, completed IYSA waiver, shin guards, ball and water bottle.

All players will go through a normal training session with the coaching staff, which includes technical drills, conditioning exercises and tactical games. Indoor training begins in November, and the spring season in the NISL runs through June 2008.

Softball

One-day clinic: Fastball USA will host a one-day softball clinic Nov. 17 for coaches and players at 137 Diversey, Elmhurst. The UIC Flames coaching staff, Tom Grey, Sarah O'Malley and Allison Aguilar, along with UIC Flames players will be on hand. The division I softball program will hold a coaches clinic from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and a players clinic from noon to 3 p.m. The clinic will cover the fundamentals of softball in several skill areas including infield and outfield defensive, plus offensive skills of hitting, bunting and slapping.

Wrestling

Sharks registration: The Sharks Wrestling Club, an affiliate of Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation, will hold registration for the fall season from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Maine Township East High School, 2601 Dempster St., Park Ridge. These are regular practice nights for the club.

Chad Conley and Mike Conrad, co-founders of the club, will welcome back existing members and get acquainted with newcomers and their parents at a clinic prior to registration. Details of this event will be forthcoming. Parents with sons or daughters between 5 and 14 who would like to be part of the organization can call Mike Conrad at (847) 299-7531.
