COD to review new costs for Early Childhood Center

College of DuPage trustees are reviewing at least $25,000 in new change orders for work on the recently-opened Early Childhood Center.

The architect on the $6.8 million project, Ross Barney, submitted seven change orders -- which are for projects beyond the original scope of their contract.

Four of them were approved by The Rise Group, which is overseeing the school's overall facility plan, and the remaining three are still under review, said Brian Kleemann, COD news bureau coordinator.

Rise forwarded the requests to the board for a vote at its Oct. 18 meeting.

Jim Koolish of The Rise Group said he's confirmed the work did take place, but there definitely is no record of any earlier requests being submitted or processed.

"I don't understand why there's no record of them," Trustee Kathy Wessel said.

Koolish said he couldn't explain that, but was certain that had they been submitted college employees would have processed them. Most of the work took place before The Rise Group started working with the college earlier this year.

The requests for payment involve a variety of work, including:

• $8,153 for an architectural rendering to show how the TY logo would be incorporated for a potential corporate sponsor.

• $11,529 to print and re-issue the bid package for potential contractors after projects were trimmed because of cost overruns.

• $4,420 to revise plans for the mechanical rooms to add a mezzanine for access.

• $1,425 to revise the playground layout and review fixtures and equipment.
