Writer's convoluted idea of patriotism
I experienced the gambit of emotions after attending a Veteran's Day ceremony in Naperville. Then I went from overwhelming gratitude and patriotism to disgust and ire, reading about the left's convoluted idea of patriotism, illuminated by Mr. Zable's Nov. 9 letter, "Opposing war isn't unpatriotic."
Mr. Zable parrots all the recycled Democratic talking points that can be found on any far-left media outlet, such as Moveon.org, Air America, New York Times, CNN, etc. I recently stumbled onto an Air America Station long enough to hear the host spin a popular military motto. Her leftist version: "Send us your sons and daughters and we will return to you trained killers!" Troop support, liberal style!
Mr. Zable wants answers to the same old Bush Derangement Syndrome that spawned accusations from the left. How is sending troops into a war based on outright lies? Other "outright" liars; Hillary and Bill Clinton, Al Gore, French and Russian Intelligence, president of Egypt, King of Jordan, and, yes, some of Saddam's top generals! All corroborated the same intelligence information.
Fallacious accusation No. 2, "..... labeling those who fight and die for our country but disagree with the policy of the current administration as 'phony' soldiers...?" Another shameful liberal smear perpetrated against anyone not sharing their warped vision. Rush Limbaugh was deliberately taken out of context by Media Matters Web site (A Hillary Clinton brainchild). Limbaugh was referring to Jesse MacBeth, who lied about slaughtering innocents in Iraq. MacBeth was kicked out of the Army after six weeks of boot camp! Hundreds of such cases of "phony soldiers" are being prosecuted by the Justice Department. But why let the facts get in the way of another disingenuous smear job.
Questions for Mr. Zable? Did you attend a Veteran's Day ceremony? Have you contributed to the Wounded Warrior Project or similar pro-military organizations? Did you vote for a convicted draft dodger and "outright" liar Bill, "I loathe the military", Clinton? Have you thanked a hero in uniform for your freedom?
Rhetorical questions of course. I already know the answers!
