Ball State coach boots two more players

MUNCIE, Ind. -- New Ball State basketball coach Billy Taylor kicked center Micah Rollin and guard Jarelle Redden off the team Thursday for separate violations of team policy.

Details of the violations were not disclosed.

"We are disappointed in the actions of Jarelle and Micah," Taylor said in a news release through the university's sports information office. "It's unfortunate we had to come to this decision, but we wish them both well in their future endeavors."

Both players were seniors.

Four other scholarship players also have left the team since Taylor succeeded Ronny Thompson as coach in August.

Freshmen C.J. Clark and Robert Martina decided to transfer in August, and last month Taylor dismissed returning player Jalon Perryman and junior-college transfer Kevin Ford.

"It's only a disruption if you allow it to be a disruption," Taylor told The Star Press. "We have to continue to work. We're not going to allow this to be a distraction or use it as an excuse. The guys who are here are going to keep working hard to get better."

The 6-foot-10 Rollin, a junior-college transfer a year ago, started 28 of 30 games and averaged 6.7 points and 4.7 rebounds for the Cardinals last season.

The 6-2 Redden, who also transferred from a junior college last year, started 11 of 24 games and averaged 1.6 points and 1.8 rebounds.
