Courageous vote on child health bill
I'm glad that I can count on Rep. Peter Roskam to stand up for my views in Congress. His vote against the House version of a bill to expand SCHIP (State Children's Health Insurance Program) was a courageous stand for seniors.
This legislation would take $157 billion from seniors and the Medicare program (over 10 years) in order to pay for new and unnecessary programs like health care benefits for illegal immigrants. I support health care programs for low-income children, but at a time of a record deficit, we can't afford to cover illegal aliens and families making $70,000 or $80,000 per year.
I want my grandkids to have the best health care possible. That means no big government agency telling them what kind of care they can and can't receive.
Socialized medicine is the wrong answer -- just look at Cuba. And to pay for it on the backs of retired seniors is simply shameful.
