Young writers often are youthfully naïve
I'd like to point something out in regard to your article about letters written to Adolf Hitler by German citizens during World War II.
It is not uncommon for kids to write letters of praise to leaders who later prove to be unworthy of their support. Don't blame the young and impressionable for their naiveté.
At 16, I wrote a letter of support to Jimmy Carter, the then newly elected president. Who would have known that in just a few short years he would plunge the nation's economy into an abyss, allow the ascension of radical Islam by allowing Iran to hold American citizens hostage for over a year without retaliation, and then deliver a disparaging speech that characterized our beloved nation as having seen its best days?
