Briefs: Power outage at Yorktown

Two stores at Yorktown Center in Lombard lost power for nearly an hour Friday afternoon. ComEd spokesman Jeff Burdick said both JC Penney and Carson Pirie Scott stores lost power at 11:57 a.m. Power was restored to Carson Pirie Scott at 12:40 p.m. Crews restored power to JC Penney a short time later. Five people were stuck for several minutes in an elevator at the JC Penney store before firefighters opened the doors. Burdick said the cause of the outage was unknown, but power was being rerouted to the stores before crews investigated and corrected the problem. An employee in the JC Penney store office said employees were walking around the building with flashlights and escorting shoppers from the store.

Leaf collection resumes

Crews from Naperville's public works department are working to collect remaining leaves along curbsides in neighborhoods east of Washington Street to Olsen Street from Gartner Street south to Hobson Road. When work in the area is complete, crews will move east of Olsen Street from Chicago Avenue south to 75th Street. Collection will then begin south of 75th. This late collection is the result of a very late season leaf fall and early snowstorms. Crews use the same equipment for both leaf collection and snow removal. Due to the potential for roadway hazards, a priority is placed on clearing streets of snow and has resulted in large piles of leaves being left along streets, curbs and parkways. Post offices open Monday

All post offices will be open on Christmas Eve, but many will shorten retail lobby hours to enable employees to spend more time with their families. Regular mail delivery on Monday will be unaffected by the change. Many post offices have automated postal centers that are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Post offices will be closed Tuesday. Express mail will be delivered Christmas Day and regular mail delivery will resume Wednesday.
