School responds to false threat

Lincolnshire police were inundated with phone calls from concerned parents after information about a threat against Stevenson High School students circulated Tuesday night.

Complete details about the threat were unavailable late Tuesday, but officials said the threat was found not to be directed at the Lincolnshire school. School officials said there are four schools with the same name in the country.

The following message was posted on the home page of the district's Web site Tuesday.

"Many teachers, staff and community members have learned of an anonymous threat against an Adlai E. Stevenson High School posted on the Internet. The Lincolnshire police and FBI have confirmed that this threat was not directed toward Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, IL. Regardless, we are taking extra precautions tomorrow for the safety of students and staff," the message said.

School officials activated an automated message system that reached out to 6,000 parents of high school students informing them of the incident and telling them that although the threat was not directed at the Lincolnshire school, that school security would be stepped up today as a precaution.
