Construction season still going strong everywhere

Fall's nip is in the air, but road construction is still going strong around here. In fact, a long-awaited project just started last week in Geneva.

Route 38 repaving

Tired of feeling like you're driving over a washboard on State Street (Route 38) between Route 25 and East Side Drive?

The state is taking care of that. Last week, it started repaving.

The current surface will be milled off and new asphalt laid down. The project should finish up in November, IDOT engineers say.

No word yet on what lanes will be closed when.

Route 38 and Kirk

Drivers: You really have to pay attention going through the construction zone, as lane configurations change. Even the engineers recognize that it's a little crazy there, and so have put tick marks on the pavement to help you figure out where to go.

The contractor will continue building the medians this week on both Kirk Road and Route 38. Eastbound traffic will have one through lane, one left-turn lane and one right-turn lane, while westbound traffic has the turn lanes and two through lanes.

Lanes will be closed occasionally on the westbound side.

Both northbound and southbound Kirk Road will have one through lane and left and right turn lanes.

And you still can't make left turns into the gas stations on the northwest and northeast corners.

Route 64 + Randall

Trees will be planted in the medians on Randall Road, and landscaping of the sides continues, so there will be occasional lane closures.

Once they are through paving, they will begin asphalt paving on Randall, Route 64 (Main Street) and Dean Street. It will take about a week to finish.

McLean Boulevard

For those traveling to Elgin, the temporary widening of McLean Boulevard on the west side continues. This will take a few weeks. Then traffic will be shifted to the west, so the east lanes can be removed.

Route 56 and Kirk

Temporary pavement widening and storm sewer relocations continue. County engineers expect this first stage to be finished in three weeks.

Orchard, Jericho

Over in Aurora: The contractor is installing lighting and traffic signals. At the end of this week or early next week, asphalt paving on Jericho will begin.

Traffic-related

The Wayne Historic Preservation Society will move the Wayne Depot down Army Trail Road from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, weather-permitting.

It will go from Dunham Road east to a new home on the south side of Army Trail Road, just west of the Chicago and North Western railroad tracks.
