Great opportunity for Lake County

How did we get so lucky?

I went to a "coffee" at a friend's house recently, and the hot topic was the proposed equestrian venue here in Lake County for the 2016 Olympics.

What a boost for Lake County! Just think, Chicago and Lake County are now representing the United States of America in its bid for the Olympics!

I find that very exciting and feel a lot of pride for our area.

I understand some people are worried that the equestrian events in the forest preserves might hurt sensitive areas. I don't believe the forest preserves would let that happen and, anyway, whatever site is chosen will have to have an environmental impact study done first. None of us will support less.

But I'm sure the site chosen will be suitable -- just so it's in Lake County! It's a long way off, but long-range planning is necessary for such an immense undertaking. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed until October 2009 when the United States will learn if we have been chosen.

Anybody else excited about this?
