U.S. State Department asks for extradition in dermatologist death
The U.S. State Department is joining Illinois' U.S. Senators Dick Durbin and Barack Obama in asking France to extradite a man suspected of killing a Chicago dermatologist.
Hans Peterson turned himself in to French authorities last month for the 2006 killing of Dr. David Cornbleet.
Peterson is an American and French dual citizen.
An arrest warrant was issued in Chicago, but French officials have said they won't extradite Peterson because he's a French citizen.
He'll be tried in a French court.
State Department spokesman Jeffrey Bergner claims it's an "inequitable situation" as France extradites its citizens to the European Union but not to the U.S.
