Des Plaines' 'Patriot Day' remembers 9/11
Des Plaines fire and police departments, American Legion Post 36, VFW Post 2992 and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 311 hosted a "Patriot Day" ceremony at 8:30 a.m. today outside the Des Plaines Civic Center, 1420 Miner St. as a 911 remembrance.
The ceremony included an honor and color guard, a prayer led by St. Mary Church, words from Mayor Tony Arredia, a keynote address by state Sen. Susan Garrett, and the National Anthem sung by Caitlin and Amberly Glitz of Willows Academy.
Taps were played by the father-and-daughter duo, Joel and Alissa Laessig and members of Bugles Across America.
