$21,859 collected in firefighter campaign

Buffalo Grove may have been beaten out this year for the highest collection in the state for the "Fill the Boot" drive, but it took 10 years for another fire department to win that accolade.

For the past decade, the department has collected more money than any other in the state for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

This year, the department came in second to the Tri-State Fire Department out of Darien. However, the Buffalo Grove collection still earned the Golden Boot Award and the highest collection in the district.

The department managed to collect $21,859.15 this year. Volunteers spent time at street intersections with the help of village staff and trustees.

In the past 15 years, the department has managed to collect $174,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, which serves 530 families in this area.
