Bond set for woman charged in escape

Bond was set Wednesday for a 31-year-old Chicago mother of six accused of helping a convicted killer escape from the Elgin Mental Health Center.

Lisa D. Mack of 8165 S. Dante Ave., charged with aiding an escape, is being held in Kane County jail on $25,000 bond.

Mack visited Tolbert Walls, 31, in the forensic unit of the Elgin Mental Health Center around 8 p.m. Monday, police said.

Mack, related to Walls through marriage, used fraudulent identification to obtain a visitor's pass and once inside, assisted Walls in getting a visitor's pass, police said.

Mack and Walls left the facility without incident, fleeing in Mack's vehicle, police said.

Walls was in the forensic unit of the facility since July after he was judged unfit to stand trial for an armed robbery in Cook County.

Police said Mack dropped him off at an unknown location in Chicago and he is still being sought by police.

Walls' last known address was 9125 S. Colfax Ave. in Chicago, police said.

Kane County Judge James Hallock set Mack's bond at $25,000. When Mack said she could not afford $25,000 to get out of jail, Hallock replied, "I think it is an appropriate amount to assure you will appear again in court."

"Aiding an escape from a locked institution is a very serious crime," he said.

Mack's next court date is Sept. 20 in room 217 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
