County board vote a source of pride

On Sept. 11, 2007, I had the privilege to be in the gallery when the Lake County Board members voted to save Winchester House. The Winchester community applauded the board in thanks, and the board stood, faced them and applauded them in return. It was obvious then that the reborn Winchester House will be a very special place that will continue to be a source of pride for Lake County.

My sincerest gratitude goes out to Lake County Churches United, the county board and their dynamic and gracious leader for respecting the value and honoring the dignity of the Winchester residents. And the cake and flowers sent by the board to Winchester residents and staff after the vote brought tears to my eyes.

Thank you, Lake County, Winchester House staff and the energetic, charming and intelligent people who are my mom and dad's neighbors at 1125 N. Milwaukee in Libertyville.

On a date known for infamy, you brought light, hope and pride.
