Veteran touched by Sept. 11 thank-you

On Sept. 11, I was never so proud to be a veteran of this country. I had heard that Prairie Isle Golf Course was to open its course to all who could prove they were veterans of any conflict our country was ever engaged in.

I remember calling and asking if they had any openings. The reply was, "Sir, if you served this country, we'll find an opening."

From the signing in to the food at the end, the volunteers could not do enough for us. Golf, food, pictures, American flags at every hole and prizes. The nicest letters from the local school children finalized the day.

Those beautiful letters were the highlight of the day. The thank-you messages came close to bringing a tear or two to this old man's eye.

I wish to thank all those wonderful volunteers and organizers for the tons of hours they must have put in for this great day. I don't know all their names, but two who were visible were Tom Frielund and Patti Cunningham and, of course, Prairie Isle Golf Course. Thank you again.
