NTSB holding hearing on Chicago train derailment
WASHINGTON -- The National Transportation Safety Board is reviewing a report on last year's Chicago Blue Line derailment and fire that sent more than 100 passengers to the hospital.
The agency is expected to adopt the report's recommendations for improvements that could help prevent a similar accident from happening again.
Investigators say Chicago Transit Authority inspectors failed to report defective track conditions before the accident, even though the problems were obvious.
The CTA also was criticized for sloppy record keeping, missing records and inadequate training of inspectors.
The train derailed downtown during the early evening rush period on July 16, 2006, sparking a smoky fire.
