Lunch bags with lead get pulled

A Buffalo Grove company has agreed to stop selling lunch bags that contain lead, according to the Illinois attorney general's office.

InGear Corp. also will give refunds to customers who bought the bags in question, under an agreement with the attorney general's office.

The company's lunch bags were sold by Dominick's stores throughout Illinois between January and November 2005.

The agreement is the result of an investigation by the attorney general's office and the Chicago Department of Public Health that revealed at least one of the company's lunch bags contained lead at 250 parts per million.

That does not exceed the state limit of 600 parts per million, but because of the health risks associated with exposing children to lead, the attorney general's office worked with InGear to reformulate the inside of the lunch box using a different material.

The bag identified in the investigation was labeled Frozn' Lady Bugs with Tangle Toy, Style Number 26700SW.

For more information, call the company at (888) InGEAR-4.
