Gas line break ties up traffic in north Naperville

Construction workers broke a 4-inch natural gas line Monday afternoon near the intersection of Diehl Road and Freedom Commons Drive in north Naperville.

No one was injured or sickened by the leak.

Gas was turned off in the area and repairs began around 4:30 p.m., but area residents were not affected by the shut off, Nicor officials said.

Some ramps to the Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway were closed for a short time, but they were reopened once the gas was shut off, city officials said.

The break occurred around 2 p.m., and workers building roads and stores along Freedom Commons Drive were evacuated as a precaution. Nicor repair crews were notified and arrived in the area 30 to 45 minutes later, company officials said.

Curb work was being done in the area where the break occurred, Nicor officials said.

Repairs were finished around 7 p.m., but officials stayed on the scene late Monday fixing the area up, officials said.
