Police seeking info

Aurora police are seeking information on a weekend incident in which a man was critically injured after he apparently fell from a moving train, officials say. Police were called to the 600 block of N. McClure Road around 8:40 a.m. Saturday to help with a man, Terrell Myers, 41, of Calumet City, who had been seriously injured along railroad tracks west of Eola Road. A Burlington Northern employee on a passing train saw Myers lying near the tracks about 8:35 a.m. Myers was taken to an Aurora hospital, then airlifted to a suburban Chicago hospital. Join Boy Scouts

Boys in first through fifth grades are invited to join Boy Scouts at a pack meeting at 6:45 tonight at Harrison Street Elementary School, 201 N. Harrison St., Geneva.

Preserve historic Geneva

A workshop about making a historic preservation plan for Geneva is set for 7 tonight at the public works building, 1800 South St. The city is starting the preservation planning process with a Web-based questionnaire to fill out online at www.geneva.il.us. Help restoration effort

The St. Charles Park District is seeking volunteers to help collect native plant seeds for ecological restoration efforts. Seed collections will be 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Campton Hills Park, along Campton Hills Road west of Peck Road, and Oct. 13, at Otter Creek Bend Wetland Park, along Crane Road between Bolcum and Silver Glen roads. Refreshments will be provided.

Life with herbs

Enjoy a daylong experience with herbs at "Growing, Cooking and Living With Herbs" from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the University of Illinois Extension at 535 S. Randall Road in St. Charles. Learn the tips and tricks of overwintering and growing herbs indoors; watch as a cook demonstrates how to make soups and stews using herbs to add flavors. Car show scheduled

The Kane County sheriff's charity car show is from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Kane County Judicial Center, 37W777 Route 38 in St. Charles. Entry fee is $10. Categories are pre-1983 cars, post-1983 cars, pre-1948 street rods and motorcycles. Proceeds benefit Easter Seals of DuPage and the Fox Valley Region. Call Ron Clark at (630) 761-8093.

Money for hospice

The Sept. 15 "Hike for Hospice" in Aurora raised nearly $30,000 to support Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice, the largest volunteer hospice in the nation providing free hospice and bereavement support to the community. It is based out of Geneva. Pictures of the event are available at www.fvvh.org.

Seniors can get legal help

Low income seniors, age 60 and older, can call the Prairie State Legal Services office at (815) 206-5828 to schedule an appointment at the Algonquin Township building, 3702 Northwest Hwy. Appointments are held mornings each Wednesday. The position of Senior Services, Attorney Geri Dolan, is funded through the 2005 McHenry County Senior Service Grant Fund.

Students hold blood drive

South Elgin High School students will hold a blood drive from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the school, 760 E. Main St. You must be 16 years or older to give blood. Donors who are 16 need a parent's signature. To register, call (847) 289-3760, ext. 3505.

Help youth symphony

The Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra will hold a fundraising luncheon at 11:45 a.m. Saturday at Outback Steakhouse, 365 Randall Road, Elgin. For $20 plus tip, participants will receive a three-course meal, with a drink, side dishes, and a choice of steak, chicken, or pasta and vegetables.
