Taxes needed to educate children

I feel compelled to reply to the letter from William Hallow (Sept. 15).

Who paid the taxes to educate him and his children if he has any? We pay property taxes in order to provide all of us with the future policemen, firemen, doctors, nurses and scientists. If we used his plan to tax property, then he would have to agree to never use any services these children will provide all of us in the future.

And as to the poor widow who is lucky enough to have a home that is worth $400,000, she will probably need some help from the students she is helping to educate.

I am a senior citizen and willingly pay my school taxes, not cheerfully but proudly that I can help the future citizens of this country.
