Briefs: Black business expo set

The Elgin-based Black Business Owners and Community Networking Organization will hold a business and entrepreneur empowerment expo from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today in the Fox Valley Business Center at Elgin Community College. Vendors and speakers will discuss starting, expanding and financing new businesses. The expo is an effort to encourage local business ownership while promoting existing businesses and entrepreneurs. Parade ends space exhibit

Gail Borden Public Library hosts a parade at 2 p.m. today to close out its "Space: Dare to Dream" exhibit. Parade activities will include giveaways, a craft and a "Space Camp" moon jump. Visitors also will be able to dress up like their favorite astronaut, alien or planetary body. The library is located at 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.

GuacMobile hits town

The GuacMobile, touted as an inventive introduction to guacamole, from 4 to 7 p.m. today visits the parking of Jewel-Osco, 103 S. Randall Road, to promote healthy eating habits. As part of a Healthy Eating Tour, the GuacMobile and nutritionist Marcia Walker will stop in 110 cities "spreading" the word about the health benefits of guacamole.

Musical dinner at church

Bethlehem Lutheran Church invites the community to a spaghetti dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church, 401 W. Main St., West Dundee. Tickets are $7. Musical entertainment will be provided by the Riverside Chorus, promoting barbershop harmony, and Christian rock group The Messengers, promoting their most recent CD and acoustical musical offerings. Rose show on tap

The Fox Valley Rose Society will host its annual Fall Rose Show on Sunday in the choir room at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 401 Main St., West Dundee. The Fourth Street entrance will open at 1 p.m. for grooming your roses. Judging will start at 2 p.m. There are nine classes or opportunities to enter roses. The society will provide vases, prizes, entry blanks, ribbons and assistance for those who need it. Admission is free and you don't have to be a member of the Fox Valley Rose Society to enter a rose in the show. Call (847) 426-4593.
