Navigate Cancer Myths: Dr. Joseph Imperato, medical director of radiation oncology at Lake Forest Hospital and past president of the American Cancer Society's Illinois chapter, will discuss common cancer myths during the hospital's annual Welles Memorial Community Education Series program. This free event will begin with appetizers at 6:30 p.m., followed by a sit-down organic dinner at 7 p.m. and then Imperato's informative presentation, "Navigating Through the Myths of Cancer," Oct. 17 in the hospital's Health Education Center.
For more than 20 years, Imperato has been one of the leading physician voices in the Chicago region attempting to educate people regarding the separation of myth and fact as it relates to cancer.
One of the classic myths Imperato will address is that antiperspirants cause cancer. Another common myth is that fat in the diet causes cancer.
Those attending this program will be able to interact with members of the Lake Forest Hospital medical staff or hospital employees seated at each table during dinner. Information also will be available from the Cancer Wellness Center and the American Cancer Society. Seating is limited and registration is required. The number to call is (847) 535-6112.
