A flea market for the night owls
Here's something you don't normally take shopping: a flashlight.
But one might come in handy Saturday with the return of the Kane County Flea Market's "Night Under the Moon" event.
The sale starts at 4 p.m. and continues under the stars until 2 a.m. Sunday at the Kane County Fairgrounds along Randall Road between routes 64 and 38 in St. Charles.
This is the sixth year for the event, which continues to be popular among midnight shoppers and those who can't typically attend the regular weekend flea markets, said manager Lori Hopkins.
"People have a lot of fun," she said. "It's just a very different atmosphere."
Organizers are expecting as many as 175 vendors to be on hand selling antiques, jewelry and other collectibles.
There also will be a pig roast to complement the market's usual food offerings, such as corn on the cob, funnel cakes and egg rolls, Hopkins said.
Admission is $3 for adults and free for children accompanied by an adult.
Vendors will set up in the northwest quadrant of the fairgrounds, and free parking will be available inside the gate, Hopkins said.
Shoppers are encouraged to bring their own flashlights, although some vendors will be inside lighted buildings and others are expected to bring their own lighting systems.
As of Thursday, forecasters were calling for mostly sunny skies with temperatures reaching into the high 70s on Saturday. Overnight, the low is expected to be 55 degrees with mainly clear skies, according to accuweather.com.
