Elk Grove moves ahead with municipal complex plan
The Elk Grove Village board this week unanimously approved a $30 million bond issue for the reconfiguration of its village hall.
When the municipal complex is completed in 2009, the fire department administration and the village's cable station, Channel 6, will be moved into the new complex.
This summer, the village's police station, which was attached to the village hall, was knocked down.
It will be rebuilt into a two-story facility with underground parking for squad cars.
The police department has been moved to a temporarily location at 321 Bond St. during the construction.
The police station was built about 37 years ago as a village hall but was later refitted to also become the village's police station when the current village hall was built.
The station falls short in its size, meeting about 83 percent of the work space required for a fully accredited law enforcement agency.
It's also does not comply with federal and state handicap codes. Additionally, it lacks enough space for required interview rooms.
