Kids holding charity walk for Autism Speaks
Marion Jordan Elementary School, 100 N. Harrison Ave., Palatine, will hold "Walk Now for Autism" from 1:45 to 3 p.m. Friday.
Each year, the "Kids Helping Kids" committee organizes a campaign to educate students on the daily challenges kids face.
Last year, Marion Jordan donated over $14,000 to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International. In addition, they were surprised by Dusty Dvoracek of the Chicago Bears. "We expect to surpass last year's donation, with the help of another special guest appearance to be kept secret," said coordinator Ann Glassgow.
Marion Jordan School has integrated the students, both autistic and non, with peer programs such as Reading Buddies, Gym Buddies and Lunch Buddies.
Classrooms that raise the most money for Autism Speaks will receive a special Walk T-shirt to wear while leading the walk for the entire school.
