Aurora man shot in head in 'gang-motivated' killing

Aurora police are looking for leads in connection with a fatal shooting late Monday night on the city's near east side.

Aurora resident Anthony D. Jackson, 19, was shot in the head as he was riding in a SUV with two other 19-year-olds in the area of Spring and Union streets, police said. The shooting occurred around 10:45 p.m. The other men were uninjured.

Several shots were fired at the SUV, but police have no idea where they originated. They are unsure if it was one shooter or multiple gunmen and whether any other vehicle was involved or if the suspect or suspects were on foot.

They do believe the incident was "gang-motivated," according to a department press release.

Jackson was transported to an Aurora hospital by the SUV's driver and pronounced dead just after 11 p.m.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call investigators at (630) 801-6686. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Tipsters may remain anonymous and still receive the reward by calling (630) 892-1000.
