Elgin Opera to hold auditions starting Sunday

Elgin Opera will hold chorus auditions for "Elixir of Love" by Donizetti Sunday in Elgin. Paid positions are available. Those who auditions should prepare a vocal selection, preferably in Italian.

Singers, especially male voices, are needed to join the chorus of Elgin Opera. "The Elixir of Love" will be performed with full orchestra Feb. 9-10 at the Hemmens Cultural Center in Elgin.

Music rehearsals will be held Thursday evenings in Elgin Sept. 20 to Dec. 13. Singers are paid per rehearsal. Staging rehearsals in January will be on weekends, and the tech week will be in the evenings Feb. 4-7.

Additional opportunities for singers include participation to outreach programs, Elgin Opera Training Ensemble, Magdalena Music Festival and Puccini's Best (June).

The Elgin Opera Training Ensemble is a vocal group created by Elgin Opera where singers can nurture and develop their gifts in a welcoming, yet challenging, environment.
