Inaccurate criticism of clinic protesters

I write to defend and clarify the pro-life stance on the new Aurora abortion clinic in response to Joni Hirsch Blackman's column, "Clinic's protesters don't all speak for community."

I am one of the "opponents of the facility," and I can tell you that no "harassment or intimidation of employees of the clinic" has occurred. The only negative behavior I've witnessed is by pro-choice people. If our presence is intimidating, the employees will have to get used to it: pro-life folks in the Fox Valley area (not "extremists from around the country,") are dedicated to lovingly proclaiming the truth: abortion kills a human being.

I am also the graphic designer who created the "newspaper ads misrepresenting why the clinic exists and what its goals are."

I made every effort to list citations and proof of the facts I included about Planned Parenthood -- nothing in the ad misrepresented the company. Two ads ran in the Naperville Sun and Aurora Beacon, including facts about Planned Parenthood and a clergy statement with over 125 signatures, compared to the paltry 19 people who signed the Planned Parenthood copycat ad.

The most offensive part of Blackman's article is her comparison of abortion to cigarettes, alcohol or red meat -- things that are morally offensive to some, unhealthy to all, but legal. An adult who chooses to abuse his body by smoking or drinking to excess is held accountable for his behavior as it effects others. We have a state smoking ban and DUI laws to protect citizens in Illinois, but no laws to protect the unborn from death by an adults' murderous choice.

There are now more crisis pregnancy centers in this country than there are abortion clinics, and all offer a range of services to help coordinate the help the woman needs to receive medical care and counseling. We support these women when their families and friends won't; we support every decision but the abortion of a human life.

Visit www.familiesagainstplannedparenthood.org to see the ads and truthful information that will correct the allegations of violence and harassment you have heard by the Planned Parenthood people. They are just not true.
