See Shakespeare in Elgin this weekend
Janus Theatre presents William Shakespeare's "Measure for Measure" through Sept. 9 at the Elgin Art Showcase, on the eighth floor of the Professional Building.
Shakespeare's "Measure for Measure" is the story of a society in search of its moral center. After years of corruption, a strict leader takes over the city -- Vienna, in this production. He attempts to establish a new order by enforcing the old laws. But will he serve the state for the better? Or will he succumb to the same corruption that he tries to change? Although written more than 400 years ago, the play continues to resonate and engage modern audiences with its relevance to our contemporary society.
This play is set in pre-war Vienna during the 1920s -- a time when politics, morality and law, competed to impose order on a fading older world.
The play will be performed at 8 p.m. today and Saturday at the Elgin Art Showcase, 164 Division St., Elgin. There will be no show this Sunday. Tickets are $15, $12 for students and seniors, $10 for groups of 8 or more, and can be reserved by calling (847) 931-0637. For information, visit www.janustheatre.org.
