ECC student attacked in parking lot

A 21-year-old Elgin Community College student from Aurora was attacked in a campus parking lot Monday evening by a man who tried to drag her into his car.

The victim said she saw the man about 20 minutes before the attack on Monday, according to police reports.

He was walking on Spartan Drive at ECC and she had to drive around him.

When she returned to her car around 5:17 p.m., he walked toward her and she asked him, "Can I help you?"

The man, about 6 feet tall, 160 pounds and dark short hair, punched her three times, knocking her down.

He grabbed her by the hair and her shirt and tried to drag her into his car, a late 1980s or early '90s green sedan. It had no rear license plate.

When a witness yelled to them, the attacker released her and fled east on Spartan Drive.

The woman was taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital, where she was treated and released.

Elgin police said they don't know if the attacker was a student but thought it was a random act.

ECC students groups on Tuesday passed out fliers with a brief description of the attack and a composite sketch of the suspect.

Elgin Community College President David Sam said the college was working closely with Elgin police and had beefed up security on campus.

"We are always concerned about student safety and we will work with all student organizations to make sure that everyone is safe," Sam said. "This is a random incident, and we encourage anyone with any information about it to contact Elgin police."
