Best Buy may be a possibility for North Aurora

North Aurora officials said Monday they have their fingers crossed about adding a Best Buy to its expanding retail base.

The company has signed a contract with Rubloff Development Group to buy two out lots in the Target-anchored shopping center on Orchard Gateway village officials said. The location is across the parking lot from Target and backs to the Reagan Memorial Tollway.

A La-Z-Boy is under construction next to the potential Best Buy location.

However, the contracts generally allow between 30 and 90 days for the company to perform due diligence, and it could back out in that time.

Village President John Hansen said he hopes the store comes to town, but said other businesses have signed contracts and backed out once they performed their due diligence, including Kohl's. J.C. Penney is now open on the land Kohl's had once targeted.

No estimates were available on how big the store would be or how much tax revenue it would generate Hansen said. The process would start with the company presenting a plan to the village building review committee.

If the project goes forward, Hansen said he did not see how construction could start before the end of the year.

However, he said adding Best Buy to the other superstores, supermarkets, pet stores and the many other new retail shops in the village would provide one of the most diverse shopping centers in the area.

"I'm looking forward to it. It just creates more synergy. You can shop for everything from tires to a dog bone to a stereo all without moving your car," Hansen said, "If you're looking for it, you'll find it."
