Spanning the suburbs
According to a Federal Highway Authority database, updated in February, there are 29,903 bridges in Illinois. Cook and the collar counties are home to 4,692 bridges. In our six counties:
•725 bridges were rated "functionally obsolete."
•340 were rated "structurally deficient bridge."
•2,032 were rated "bridge not deficient."
•1,587 were not rated.
•8 were rated "not applicable."
