With experienced captains Erin Ross and Abigail Herling leading the way, a relatively new 10U all-star team competed in the Skokie Slammers tournament on July 20-22 and then the Waycinden Invitational in Des Plaines July 26-29. After a disappointing finish in the Skokie tournament, they went into Waycinden ready for a win.
On July 26, they beat the Westdale Warriors 7-5. Erin Ross shut them down in the first three innings with 8 strikeouts. Abigail Herling and Erin had two doubles apiece to lead the batting. Alicia Sanchez had a single. Abigail finished off pitching with three strike outs to hold off the warriors charge at the end.
On July 28 they started off a doubleheader for the day beating the Waycinden team 10-7. The Waycinden team pitcher Kayleigh Duff kept the Flames close by pitching three good innings, but in the fourth Erin Ross hit a triple bringing in two runs and a single by Colleen O'Toole bringing in one run. Great base running by Dorothy Calba, Caroline Wilieko, Nicole Byerly, Dory Eby, and Jordan Hart finished it off for a six-run inning. In the last inning Brianna O'Toole made a great catch at short for one out and Erin threw two more strike outs to stop the Waycinden comeback.
The second game on Saturday the Flames beat Villa Park by one run 9-8.
Erin and Monica Liwag each had a single in the third for a four-run inning. Erin threw three shutout innings with nine strikeouts. After a six-run inning by the Villa Park team to tie it up, Erin leads off the sixth with a triple and Monica Liwag hits a single to bring in the winning run.
On July 29 they had to beat the Villa Park team again 10-13 to advance to the championship. Erin Ross had a grand slam home run, Brooke O'Toole got a single and stole second in the first inning. Kassidy Riportella had a double in the second and Colleen had a double in the third.
For the championship game not much went the Flames way with star pitcher Erin Ross getting hurt on the mound in the second. Brianna and Alicia each getting a double but defense couldn't stop the Westdale team, this time losing 10-3.
