Gunshots fired at car near Elgin school

Gunshots were fired at a car this afternoon outside an elementary school in Elgin, police said.

No one was injured.

Sheridan Elementary School was locked down after the 3:19 p.m. shooting, according to an Elgin Area School District U-46 spokesman.

Shell casings were found in front of a home on the 200 block of Hill Avenue, about a block from the school, Elgin police said.

Several teenagers were taken into custody and Elgin police confirmed they had arrested at least one person.

Elgin police said they planned to obtain a search warrant for an address on the 300 block of Hill Avenue.
